Main reason for choosing Novotel Southampton: Location
The service was excellent and the staff were all really friendly and polite including the chamber maid and nothing was too much trouble for them. When we first arrived we were put in a room that had major refurbishment going on in the next room but when I complained we were moved straight away and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The location was close enough to walk to the train station and the city centre.
The receptionist was trying to helpful but whether it was the lack of fluency with the english language or her inexperience I had to make 3 calls back home for irrelevant information and in the end with 1000 apologies realizing what I was talking about.

The gentleman who greeted us when we arrived late on the Friday night was exeptionally helpful,offering to rearrange rooms so that the two rooms ( which I had booked separately) could be close to one another
I was rather shocked to find on paying for my daughters breakfast (a bowl of cereal and a croissant) that I was charged £19. I had understood from the internet that it would be £13.50. When I queried it I received quite a frosty response

Loved the location and friendliness and helpfulness of staff.
The fact we had no heating in our room, had to wait for an hour for it to be looked at, the receptionist coudn't fix it, so was given option to change rooms, but as we were on our way out, we declined.

We had asked for a twin bedded room but got a double. One of the bedside lights was not working. Limited TV channels. Bed very soft.

The reception decor was bright and our bathroom was well appointed.
Very noisy one night due to loud music thumping through the hotel from a function downstairs until 1am, this disturbed my family greatly.
The leisure facilities were not available during our stay, we were only informed of this 2 days before our visit

Room was of good size, but quite cold even with heating full up!!
Maintanance work in the lobby on arrival. wasnt pre warned of this or would never have booked. lobby looked like a bomb site. no one was trying that bit harder to please the costumers. went to try and have a quite drink with my partner in the bar in the evening, the bar looks like a canteen and all the comfortable places to sit were being taken up by Builders who had been laying your floor throughout the day!!
