Main reason for choosing Novotel Southampton: Location
The staff. We had multiple problems (see below) but they dealt with them very professionally.
The service in the bar was dreadful - we waited 35 minutes for 2 sandwiches with no-one else in there. When they arrived we sent them straight back. Chips were cold, the 'grilled chicken' hadn't been near a grill pan and they forgot a key ingredient in my sandwich. So bad we cancelled our evening reservation in the restaurant. We had noisy neighbours that night - in the end I asked them to be quiet. Management did come up, but unfortunately there was little they could do. Thankfully they left the next morning, but we were prepared to change rooms if they hadn't.

Nice hotel, nice room, very good breakfast. Stayed for one night pre-cruise, very convenient for docks and shopping mall. Good value for the money we paid.
Awake all night with rowdy guests (youngsters) banging on doors throughout the night. Lost a nights sleep. Poor control over mix of guests e.g. young and old. Putting young with old is not a very good idea. Management did not charge us for car parking or breakfast. Would stay again- give management a second chance.

Very unhappy about the fact that we had paid for the room and told us that it was not paid! He had returned by mail the invoice to be paid back in a second time!

The breakfast was very good and restaurant manager was friendly, as we had met him on previous visits.
I like the Novotel but think that if there are functions taking place then paying guests should not have to run the gauntlet of drunken revellers who have not even gone to their function yet and the doormen should do the job that they are paid to do.

Very clean and good facilities, easy to find and visit places around, GR8 time.
I didnt really like paying extra for parking, yes it was only £4 a day, the breakfast we chose to get in portsmouth at the pub called the invincable, which cost us £17 for a good cook breakfast for 5 off us, instead of £14 each.

Very nice and modern hotel, walking distance from the train station, even with suitcases (3 min. walk). Comfortable bed and very nice bathroom (separated from the wc).
Our hotelroom smelled like someone had smoked cigarettes there right before we arrived, but it went away after a few hours.
