DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Southampton

The fixtures, fittings and decor were excellent. The breakfast was wonderful.

We arrived about 5pm on Saturday and had difficilty finding a parking space. We returned about 10.pm and there was nowhere to park! The bottle of mineral water in the bedroom was a nice touch, but at £3.95 a bottle?? Well over the top, we thought. Nevertheless, a delightful stay - thank you

Our son was getting married in Southampton so 15 family members stayed at the Hilton for the weekend, we were all enjoyed our stay and the staff were all very accommodating to all our needs, thank you.

We have marked down on location, not because of where it was but just the difficulty of finding the hotel in the first place.

All the staff were very polite and helpful, in particular,during busy times.

The hotel is very popular with families, some with a number of children.A considerable number of the children were not controlled by their parents/guardians and were allowed to run round in the bar and lounge area.During our three day stay, there was not a quiet area at 10.00pm and later, in the bar or lounge area, in which to enjoy a quiet drink. Babies and children aged 14 and under should not be permitted in the bar after about 9pm.

Rooms were comfortable and well decorated

REstaurant - sea bass on menu was 1 1/2inch x 3 inches at £15 + was a con. Other meals we had ok - quality and taste ok. No Sky TV. Had to pay for internet

The fact that my family were all staying at the same hotel from around the country. The Hilton Southampton was definately not what I would call a 4 stars hotel. It was way understaffed and over priced for what you got.

The swimming pool had huge clumps of paint falling off the ceiling. I mean huge big slabs of peeling paint - and possibly plaster. The 'state of the art' gym - was like a tiny box room. You had to do weight workouts right next to people that were on the treadmills. I mean you could touch the treadmill with your arm it was that close - plus weights only went up to about 20k. Far to light. There was no porter - when I asked for someone to take my luggage to my room, they said they didnt offer that service. My nanny had to struggle to the room when she got there on the day before me, with a big trolly load of cases. In the bar in the evenings, there was never any one there - we had to go and look for someone to serve us drinks. Would I stay there again? No. Next time we have a big family get together - we have already decided that it will be staying somewhere else. That comes from the party of about 12 people from around the country. All off us were in agreement. The Southampton Hilton - Never Again.

Being charged £3.00 for parking each day. How are we supposed to arrive for a weekend break other than by car? Hilton Bristol did not charge for car parking when I stayed there on the 13th March 2010
