The Chequers Hotel

We were disapointed with the room. Toilet did not work properly. Although we were told that there would be food available on Sunday night it was only bar snacks, some of which were not available and we ended up with fish and chips, probably cooked by the night staff. We though that it was poor value for money. we would not consider using your hotels in future.

Great location and fine for a one night stay but corridors really looking shabby and the rooms were very dated, there were a few cobwebs in our room, wallpaper coming off and the shower was more of a trickle.

It is a nice hotel but could do with redecorating. If you want somewhere to stay in Newbury in a good location the Chequers is ideal.

Central location. A little shabby at the moment but understand a major renovation will be taking place this year. However, the rooms are delightfully decorated and modern. They have thought of all comforts.

The Hotel looks univiting from outside with the poor level of decor and rotting window frames. Inside is not much better as the decor is poor and the carpets look very tired. The room decor was also poor. I'm sure the Hotel was once very nice but it clearly lacks investment over many years.

This is a fairly large hotel which is still able to give a personal touch. The staff are warm and approachable, and the food is excellent. But if you like to sit outside to sip an after dinner coffee beware; the only place to sit outside side is cold and dismal designated smoking area.

Tired, scruffy, noisy

The hotel lookes very nice from the outside but not as nice inside. We had a room in the annex which is at the back of the hotel.It was the top floor of a small terraced house.It was not of a standard I was expecting but for the price it was okay. We got it for half price "special offer" if we had paid full price I would have been very dissapointed. One night was enough.Maybe the hotel bedrooms are better I would hope so. If you are staying here as for a hotel room.
