The Chequers Hotel

On arrival there was alot of mix up with the booking payment, which took about 15-20 mins to sort out, as we were tired from our journey we took a seat while things were being discussed, room wasnt very clean e.g hairs on bathroom floor, cutlery not washed properly,although the bedding did seem to be ok, but it didnt really affect our weekend . For the price we paid it was ok Hope this helps

Rather an impression of faded glory! Chipped paintwork, peeling wallpaper,unpainted window frames, dead light bulbs in public areas.

Pretty good experience. Room was spacious and clean, but hotel is a bit rundown. Unlike the experience with other reviewers, water pressure was just fine and no problem with hot water. The food in the dining room was also very good. The employees were helpful and courteous. The only problem was with the lock on the door; difficult to open at first and then I could not get it to lock once I opened it. I reported it and they fixed it right away.

Unbeatable value for money and great central location. The hotel is slightly run down and there are obvious signs of dampness in the building (not least being a musty smell). However, it was much better than I though it was going to be for the price.

Excellent location, room of a good standard but building (esp eg stairwells and corridors)looks tired, things like paintwork, seals round the bath etc. I've stayed 3 times I can remember and 2 out of 3 times the shower has been a big disappointment - think tepid dribble
