Hotel near Gatwick Airport. Little noise. Paying shuttle but cheap for the airport.

Very old, dirty room and shower with mold. Certainly not worth 3 stars, but not really a 1 star.

Free transport to and from hotel excellent. Room OK, though a bit dusty. Breakfast OK in quantity, but only one person seemed to be doing all the work, cooking breakfast, clearing tables, refilling bread, etc. Too much for one person to do, as items kept running out. Cooked breakfast a bit dry.

This is an efficient and inexpensive minimalist hotel run by South Asians (Indians/Pakistanis). A great contrast with the charming and elegant b-and-b I stayed at in Hampstead -- which was also more expensive. I would definitely stay at the White House Hotel if travelling via Gatwick again, but I couldn't say it was a delightful experience. The staff on the desk (I assume, the owners) were friendly and very capable. But everything was very pared down: the smallest washbasin I have ever seen in my life -- my spit tended to miss it when I was cleaning my teeth, an extremely narrow single bed, the very minimum that could with honesty be called the traditional English cooked breakfast. I could have eaten my dinner there, but there was a smell -- not a dirty one, but one suggestive of cheap food hanging around -- emanating from the dining room area that put me off slightly (it was absent at breakfast time), so I walked into Horley and ate there, spending a lot more, doubtless, for an okay but undistinguished meal. I liked the place because it was cheap and very decent, the staff were efficient and quite pleasant, and the free shuttle to the airport was great. Last year I stayed overnight at a Holiday Inn near Heathrow, and, quite honestly, I didn't really like it any better. I guess I like a place with charm. Failing that, I'd go for cheapness and efficiency.

My bedroom was scruffy and tatty, I am sure it was a staff bedroom, no doors on drawers, no entry sign on the door, and an empty soft drink next to a dirty hob, arrived late so not possible to complain and be moved. did not expect too much for the price paid, on the plus side, the staff was pleasent, courtesey car from/to the airport was ok, allthough had to pay more as the flight was delayed.
