The old structure from its newly renovated hotel makes a very pleasing impression while you can feel comfortable. The wooden lounge beds (unfortunately without resting) in the garden are a welcome relief to the city can visit.

We would highly recommend Hotel Sant Elena for travellers who value a comfortable/clean hotel that comes at a relatively affordable price for extended stays (we stayed for one week). The hotel is located in a "neighborhood" area and is a 35 minute walk to St. Mark's square. If you are a soccer fan, it is located next to the Soccer stadium which the staff told us is in use from September through the end of Soccer Season. The breakfast room is very nice and the food is excellent. It is a more Americanized breakfast and room than the one we had at our hotel in Southern Italy, but nonetheless we enjoyed the food and it was nice to see CNN on the flat panels each morning. The rooms are clean and big (we had a standard room with a King Size bed). We stayed on the first floor and the ceilings were at least 13 feet high, the bathrooms were modern, and our room had an LCD Flat Screen TV. The hotel is very close to Garibaldi Street (10 minute walk) and Al Hombra, El Nuevo Galeon and the best Gelato shop in Venice are located on that street (try the peach gelato ... wow!). There is a restaurant about 3 minutes from the hotel (walking away from the park) that opens at 7:30pm each evening that is phenomenol and is the least expensive dinner around -- It has a Pink/white awning over it and their "tourist" experience is fantastic ... for a liter of wine and two tourist dinners (First course lasagna, Second Course Calamari or Steak, Third Course Salad) it cost only 42 Euro and that included cuperto and balance of tip -- outside of that restaurant plan on spending at least 65 Euro or more for dinner. You can also book Gondola rides through hotel Sant Elena (save 10 to 20 Euro vs. street cost of ride). However, if you don't want a sunset gondola ride and if you want a night ride instead, it is cheapest to go up to the Gondoleers at 9:00pm (outside the hotel Daniels) and get a ride for 90 Euro. Those prices include going under the bridge of Sighs -- may be cheaper elsewhere and during the day, but we wanted to go under the bridge of Sighs so we didn't ask for pricing outside of that area. The hotel has a free taxi to Murano and you get a personal tour of a glass making factory. It is a very nice experience and it saves you paying for boat ride to the island of Murano. Overall, I'd rate this hotel at 9.5 out of 10 ... only because the hotel Antiche Mura in Sorrento was an 11 out of 10 and raised our expectations so high. Had the staff done something special for us or congratulated us on our honeymoon like the staff at our hotel in Sorrento, we would have rated it an 11 out of 10 too.

The site of this hotel was a great rain, near a park and surrounded by greenery. It is located in a residential area and about 15 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco. We recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet place away from city noises, away thousands of tourists.
