Hotel Borges Chiado

In a privileged position with a building that could be a gem, we find that common parts of the hotel-reception, corridors, elevator dirty and deteriorated. There were bags of trash in the hallways. The double bed was a sofa bed that was broken supported with two chairs. The lock of the room was not working well and the cleaners always left open. We should vigorously insist that we change to a room whose door closed. Breakfast (coffee, juice) of very low quality. And the staff response, null and angry. In short, a disappointment.

Hotel Borges met expectations. The room is very big and it all worked (tv, heating, shower), the only problem was some bad smell in the room the first day. The lack of elevator door is a little weird too ... but at least it worked! The breakfast was simple but good. (Coffee, milk, chocolate, two types of bread, jam, butter and cheeses)

Great location near tram and metro and a 6 min walk to main street - Rua Augusta. Cafes on street with alfesco eating for lunch. Near boutique style shopping mall. Need for hotels to have good city map to give on arrival. My purse was stolen while watching street theatre on Rua Augusta- tourist and local police were very obliging during a difficult time.

If you aren't someone who wants luxurious accomodation an a huge breakfast buffet to choose from, then the "Borges" offers everything you need for a very good price; our room was spacious and clean, the staff is friendly, and the location is just perfect. I'd definitely stay there again.

Wonderfully central, be sure to book a room overlooking the bustling street. The Hotel's decor seems to date back to the 1970's, untouched since then. Very trendy!
