This hotel aspires to be a top quality hotel and charges accordingly, but unfortunately does not live up to its aspiration. There was no one outstanding feature that brings it down, rather a number of small issues which in isolation are not too serious but all together indicate that the quality control processes are not functioning properly. Some of the issues were a) Only three coathangers in the (rather small) wardrobe available for use. (There were actually 5 but two had bath robes hanging on them) b) No iron or trouser press in the room. You could get ironing facilities by phoning housekeeping, but you shouldn't have to do that in a first class hotel. c) There were two recessed halogen lights in the bathroom but one was broken when I arrived and was still not fixed when I left. d) The main light switches were a little loose in their fitting. Not dangerously so at this stage but could potentially become so if they continued to work loose. e) The towel rail in the bathroom had a warning notice that it was hot. But it wasn't! What I think was the switch seemed to have blown a fuse. f) A lovely rush wicker chair had a broken armrest. This had obviously been broken before as there was evidence of an attempt to repair it, but was now broken again. Had the chambermaid not noticed that? i.e. had she not dusted that chair recently? g) There was no free internet link in my room. There was a terminal in a room off the foyer but you had to pay to use it. More and more hotels are now offering internet access in rooms free of charge. h) There are two large car parks at the rear of the hotel, which are accessed from the Back Lane but on the other side of the lane from the hotel. There is no signpost indicating to a stranger such as myself that they are indeed car parks for the hotel. (The whole area actually seems to belong to the hotel but visitors don't know that.) A clear sign would have been helpful. The main part of the hotel is very old and full of character. My room was in a newer block and had the potential to be very nice, with a small outside patio area, but let down by small things that would be so easy to put right.

Il s'agit d'un hôtel pittoresque vieux, un pas en arrière dans l'histoire. Un endroit à recommander, mais les prix sont élevés, mais la nourriture est très bonne.
