Their restaurant was the main disappointment. The breakfast was ample but average quality food and their offerings at dinner were not quality and way over-priced for what they presented. While the service staff at dinner were kind and attempted to give good service, they seemed very over-worked and rushed. The evening turn-down service was perfunctory and not complete. They only closed the curtains and did not empty garbage or refresh towels even though we had placed towels to be replaced in the shower/tub as instructed. Also signage into the hotel and around the grounds was inadequate.

Vintage House is not the 5-star hotel as was rated when we booked it. While it is a Superior facility it lacks the total amenities to put it at the 5-star level. The staff was excellent and very accommodating and helpful and went "beyond-the-call of duty" at the reception desk! We enjoyed our stay, the location is picturesque and the hotel is far above the quality of others in the Douro Valley area, but still not up to the standards we found in Porto, Lisbon, and the Algarve areas.
