The Churchill Hotel

Fabulous stay! Bar slightly small but ok. Cleanliness top drawer and staff extremely attentive.

The location was fine and initial impressions of the hotel were good. However, the 2 standard rooms our friends and us were given in the new extension, while modern and clean, were both extremely small and claustrauphobic. The cramped conditions of our en-suite made it difficult to use the washbasin with the door closed. At the first night's dinner, the chairs were too low for the table, the crab starter was tasteless though the other courses were fine. On day two the dinner was excellent (it seemed as though a different chef was on) and the chairs fitted the table. All in all a far better experience. At both breakfasts(cold plates, some luke-warm food, slowness in clearing away used plates) detracted from what could have been an acceptable meal. All in all I think the hotel flatters to deceive, in that it doesn't live up to the initial impressions of ambient quality. I believe that designing and constructing new rooms which are patently too small is a fundermental mistake if the hotel wishes to encourage more repeat visits. The inconsistency in the catering also needs to be addressed. While the staff were generally very pleasent and friendly we felt some could benefit from improved training and supervision. Overall, we enjoyed our visit to York, but will not bereturning to this hotel.

Lovely classic hotel building on good walking distance of the old town of York; designing the public areas and rooms is very trendy and stylish.

Friendly staff. Good parking. Clean modern rooms. Breakfast a little disappointing. I would be happy to stay at this hotel again.

The hotel was great it has been refurbished to a high standard very modern we visit york 3 times a year and will book the same hotel again

Very nice hotel, close enough to city for wandering around, good price via web, think expensive normally.

We stayed in a room classified as spacious and apparently,according to a member of staff, the bathroom was bigger than normal rooms but apart from space to allow the bedroom door to open, there was just enough space to walk around the bed and I'm size 6. I must say I expected better. Chamber maid was very polite and did a good job.
