Main reason for choosing Pousada Forte da Horta - Historic Hotel: Location
The Hotel is well located with spectacular views of Pico from the terrace and gardens. Unfortunately the guest services were poorly managed.Items of hot food and juices/milk on the breakfast buffet were often missing, getting served at the bar required a trip to reception or a long wait,pool towels ran out on three of our 6 days and our room was never serviced untill after 4pm. which made getting ready for the evening difficult.
There was no indication in the hotel information that there are two very different standards of rooms. Those facing the garden all have balconies/terraces and stunning views. Those at the back have no balconies and are 6 ft from the high stone wall of the fort. they are dark depressing and gloomy. We asked to move and would pay any up-grade but we were told the hotel was full and all rooms were the same price. Clearly over 6 days many guests left but a room change was never offered.
