Thank you for asking for my review - I was already contemplating sending you a letter about this. I've stayed in many Mercure Hotels worldwide and am a member of the Accor Group Club here in Australasia/South Pacific. YOur hotel was clean, very comfortable and for a one room single unit, a nice place to return each of the 9 days I stayed there. The pool was lovely and I made good use of it too. However on the down side, here's some thoughts for you to consider: While I know that tea and coffee making facilities in my room is only common in some places in Europe, for a four star rating hotel with the mercure brand on it, I did expect it and was very surprised to find that there was not even a cup or any utensils in my room. THe first thing I therefore did was go to the market next door and buy a kettle, mug, spoon and knife so that I could make my own tea, without having to come downstairs to do it - when travelling such long distances, it is nice to be able to do this even in the middle of the night when jet lag means odd hours of waking. Your restaurant on the two occassions I dined there: the staff were pleasant and efficient but the food was very average, over priced, and my pork had to be returned due to not being properly cooked in the middle(dangerous to eat) and was brought back having been microwaved too far and covered with extra sauce - I was not able to finish my meal. Your hotel was not really within reasonable distance to any other restaurants and having such a limited menu (the same in the cafe as in the restaurant with the same prices was a surprise), was very disappointing. The counter staff were efficient but not overly friendly and courteous, and on one occassion I arrived there to find many of them in a group outside the front door smoking and taking a break together. This was not something I'd expect to see anywhere - and then when I went to the counter a moment later, it was a few minutes before someone noticed me and sent one of the staff inside from thier group. Not a good first impression I thought. Being so far from the train station - your marketing said 7 minutes, and on the map it does look a lot closer than the actual 12 minutes it took. I walked there eveyr day and I'm a very fast walker so for many it would be at least a 15 minute walk - so you may like to adjust your advertising on this point. On talking with a group in the reception area on the saturday morning - we started talking in the elevator - we all shared the surprise and mutual dissatisfaction about the location of your hotel. The staff at reception could be better trained (on general customer service points too but especially) to explain the bus and train timetables and avialability of taxis to guests on arrival - this would certainly help. Finally, I travel a lot and regularly use an international phone calling card, which is free to use from any hotel phone anywhere in the world, so that I can call my children without incurring huge expensive telephone calls. When I tried to use this phone system from my room, your phones would not accept the input of the second series of numbers. when I went to reception to ask about how to resolve this, one girl tried to tell me to go down the road and use the pay phone. I managed then to convince them to put the call through from the main phone and transfer the call to me, and this was done well and I thank them for thier effort on this - it was very much appreciated, however it was not done with a smile and a friendly attitude, and I therefore did not feel inclined to ask them to repeat the process again during my stay.

As per above. I should note that my business is as an author and publisher of customer service material, and this is why I've given you a detailed review...
...Don't take this as a list of complaints please. It's the little things that make the difference to customers, and it seems you could be losing a lot of potential repeat business by some easily fixable things. I'm not sure if I'd stay there again next year based on at least now I would know what to expect and could be prepared for these things. I'd love to know what if anything you change before I return next October.
