The Great Hallingbury Manor Hotel

Our room was uncomfortably hot. The temperature reached 29 degrees C, and didn't fall below 27 degrees C during the two days that we stayed. There was no air conditioning. The hotel is directly under the flight path from Stansted airport, with loud aircraft noise audible throughout the day. There was a short respite between midnight and 5.30am. Our room was situated just above the two large extractor fans from the kitchen. This generated constant noise during most of the day and well after midnight. Opening the windows to alleviate the heat only increased the noise levels and let in unpleasant kitchen smells. Service was very poor. We were kept waiting over 20 minutes to be served 2 drinks in the bar, with four members of staff present and only one other customer. Drinks were very expensive, with an additional 10% service charge added to our bill when we checked out. Breakfast was disappointing. The plates were cold and the cooked food was lukewarm. This was probably the worst hotel experience we have ever had.

Lovely environment, very attractive hotel; liked our room but sadly suffered sleep deprivation (had to be up at 4am for airport) because wedding party kept trooping through two sets of doors past our room and leaving them open!! No noise heard when they were closed....we asked a member of staff to make sure they were shut; he was very polite but only checked them once. This really was very, very annoying! Also although we had requested a taxi for the morning it did not turn up and apparently had not been ordered! Good job we had booked in online and had time on our side.

Very nice hotel, room was large and comfortable. Had room service and the food was very good. However, it is right under the flight path for Stansted and so is noisy

It was simple fantastic, from the staff to the quality of the hotel itself
