Grand Hotel Central

The hotel provided an excellent base for going out to explore the city each day, and turned out to be in a very good location itself, being close to the cathedral square.

I happened to notice one morning that the staff doing the housekeeping for the floor I was on did not appear to understand "Do Not Disturb", which I had affixed temporarily to my door. The fact that I was still in the room was thus slightly a problem to them, and it seemed best to get away and let them clean. Admittedly it was now late, being about eleven o'clock, and I had slept late that morning, but I would have tried to get away sooner if I had realised how matters actually stood. Some hotels do not get around to making up rooms until the afternoon, or the staff might be able to come back then, but in this instance it seemed wise to depart, as I was risking not getting the room made up due to having been slightly tardy myself. Yet the literature in the room had implied there would not necessarily be a problem with rising a little late occasionally. Thus the problem, if it was one, was that of most hotels in Spain, which seem to have a very well-organised and regular housekeeping service, but which definitely requires the resident to be well-behaved and rise early - like everybody else in Spain!!
