Grand Hotel Alkmaar

The hotel is vanskelg to find. Old Alkmaar consists mostly of one way streets and there was not enough traffic in mind at that time the city was gone .. parking on the street. This offers problems since this is also used as a car park by local residents and visitors to restaurants in the same street. The rest was great!

The photograph on the web was slightly misleading as to location -- we had not realized that the hotel was situated in a very noisy part of town (the weather was very hot and we had to open the windows). However, the room was comfortable, even if not everything worked -- it took me some time to work out that all the power points on one side of the room did not function -- but the staff could not have been more helpful or more friendly and responded quickly to our requests (e.g. for soap). The food was VERY GOOD, but I have a better wine-cellar at home. The parking was some 400 metres away, and there was no dedicated space to unload the car in front of the hotel. Loading was impossible, as there was a street market on the day of our departure (don't remember being told about that in advance). All in all, I don't think a four-star rating is justified.
