World Peashooting Championship in EnglandTopics: Events
Each year the unlikely English village of Witcham is home to a prestigious international event. The World Pea-Shooting Championship is held on the village green and attracts visitors from the world over. Held alongside the Witcham village fair, this is the area's main fundraising event in to raise money for the upkeep of the Village Hall. And with a £1 entry fee, it is unlikely to break the bank. Taking place this year on July 12th, avid peashooters from all over the world will visit England to try and take their place in peashooting history. Unsurprisingly, the competition involves contestants shooting a pea through a tube, with strict regulations instructing that they must be shot from a distance of 12ft towards a 12-inch target. And for those who are less keen on the pea extravaganza, there are novelty games, face painting, food and drink stalls and a number of other events to keep visitors entertained. According to the World Peashooter Society, contestants must only use real whole dried peas, although they are allowed to test the pea they want to use for roundness. And a key safety rule is that they must never aim or shoot at people or animals. |
