alexandra hotel spainFor anyone interested in being right in the middle of Barcelona, consider a stay at the Alexandra Hotel. Located five blocks northwest of Gran Via de les Cortes Catalanes between Rambla de Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia, the Hotel Alexandra is minutes away from some of the best eating and shopping that Barcelona has to offer, yet is just enough off the major roads to be a bit more quiet. Some guests have complained about traffic noise in the morning but that is the price to pay for being so close to the tourist heart of the city. Other guests found the rooms quiet and cozy.

The hotel offers 5 different types of rooms. The 54 standard rooms were remodeled in 2006 and offer the basic hotel amenities for around 100 euro a night (winter 2006 rate). The 35 Deluxe rooms run about 15 euro a night more and are basically the same as the standard with more designer touches throughout. The 14 Superior rooms (129 euro) are larger than the standard or deluxe rooms and are located on the upper floors (some with views of the Rambla Catalunya). If you are looking for top-floor luxury, the 3 Junior Suites or 3 regular Suites will cost you 210 and 290 euro respectively. Check out the hotel’s website for special deals like the Birthday, Anniversary, or Super Romantic packages; winter online discount rates; or a free breakfast buffet. Mini-bar and wi-fi service are available in all rooms for an extra charge.

Trendy, delicious and attractive, Asiana offers antiques by day and exquisite Asian food by night.Concierge.com describes the glorious surroundings in this seemingly surreptitious building as evoking a "romantic urban netherworld"This unique combination of uses of a building works very well - once the tables are set at night the stylish surroundings evoke Asian luxury amid soft candlelight, while many of the wares from the shop owned by the chef's mother remain in sight.Jaime Renedo is the young, self-taught chef who breathes life into this popular eatery, producing a tasty, eclectic menu, combining Spanish produce and eastern flavours.ViaMichelin gives examples of dishes including lobster with fresh pasta and bellota ham served as a Chinese soup and tuna belly as a sashimi wrapped in seaweed.More top restaurants in the Spanish capital include Antojo, Casa Lucio and Hakkasan, another Asian eatery that produces a fusion of Japanese, Chinese and Peruvian flavours.

Foreign groups from around the world join locals to wow the crowds from October 15th to November 18th in venues around the city, so book your cheap hotel in Madrid early. Out of a total of 30 acts last year, British actors put on Happy Days and French artistes made waves with comedy Le Misanthrope. Bullfighting is out as the season ends in October, but traditional Spanish cuisine is in inside the city's seemingly endless stream of bars and restaurants. There are enough boutiques to give the most-seasoned shopaholics a run for their money and plenty of opportunities to go downtown to old-fashioned markets that will eek more out of your Euro. Get to the capital earlier on November 9th for the Virgen de la Almundena festivities centred around the church of the same name consecrated by Alfonso VI in the 11th century, now known as the Catedral de la Almundena. A new church was started for the city's patron saint in the 16th century but only finished in 1993 when it was consecrated by Pope John Paul II. Madrid is also known for its football teams. A trip to the capital would not be complete without a visit to the home of Real Madrid, Santiago Bernabeu. The stadium is the site of plans for new ministries, skyscrapers, an opera house and park, some of which are expected to be finished this year.
