Events and attractions in and around Kastrup

Kastrup hotels are a great base for exploring Denmark's capital Copenhagen, which has a variety of attractions.

The small, quaint village of Kastrup is close to the Copenhagen Airport, making it extremely convenient for those staying in Denmark hotels. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is also close to the coast, so there are plenty of options for visitors.

Copenhagen hosts events all year round and it therefore appeals to tourists visiting in all seasons.

Pageants and celebrations

Those visiting in summer may want to coincide their stay in hotels near Kastrup with the Viking Pageant, in Frederikssund, which spans over June and July.

Frederikssund is a town west of Copenhagen and every year it sees around 250 adults and children don traditional Norse dress to give visitors a flavour of life in the Viking Age.

Every night of the festival, the locals put on a play on an open air stage, recreating the colour, people and drama of the time, which should not be missed if you are staying in hotels in Kastrup at this time.

Each year, the actors put on a different play based on Danish folklore for visitors to enjoy.

Another event for people to enjoy during the summer months while staying in hotels near Kastrup is the Sankt Hans celebration. This is a popular Nordic tradition and was originally a pagan festival to mark Midsummer.

Every year, on beaches and in harbours, parks and open spaces around Copenhagen, bonfires are lit, while locals and visitors gather around for a sing-a-long. A local politician or celebrity usually makes a speech as well so it is a special occasion which those staying in Kastrup hotels will not want to miss if they are in Denmark on June 23rd.

Festive fun

Christmas is one of the best times to stay in hotels in Kastrup, as Copenhagen really comes alive during the festive season. In Tivoli, the old amusement park becomes a Yuletide winter wonderland from mid November until December.

The trees lining the Tivoli lake are decorated with over a thousand lights and a grand Christmas tree is the centrepiece of the gardens. More than 70 stall holders converge on the area, selling a wide range of decorations, presents, delicacies, food and drinks.

Restaurants and bars around Tivoli are also open for tourists to shelter from the cold outside with a drink or a meal, while the Glass Hall and Concert Hall put on entertainment for young and old.

Those staying in hotels in Kastrup may also want to head to Copenhagen if they visit during Christmas, as there is a really special atmosphere. There are various markets, concerts, exhibitions and theatrical performances, as well as fantastic New Year celebrations.

Visitors should sample glogg , or mulled wine, and aebleskiver, Danish for apple donuts, during a venture into the city centre. There are also outdoor ice skating rinks in the city's many squares, while shops open late to allow plenty of time for buying gifts.
