People travelling from the north of England on holiday will soon be able to fly directly to Dubrovnik, after Jet2.com announced a new route.

The airline has revealed the flight path will be available from Leeds-Bradford in the summer of next year, taking customers straight to Croatia.

Phillip Meeson, the boss of Jet2.com, said the company had decided to capitalise on the destination, as it is "fast becoming one of Europe's leading holiday hot spots".

"Dubrovnik is an especially exciting addition to our schedule as it is the first time that we have flown into Croatia," he added.

The airline has revealed prices will be from £56.99 one way, with the first flight taking off on May 23rd.

According to Jet2.com, the destination is attractive to Britons as it has a "magnificent coastline" in addition to good food offerings and a climate akin to the Mediterranean.

VisitCroatia, the country's tourist board, says that the southern city has been present since the 13th century and still retains this old vibe.

Included in activities for those staying in the best hotels in Dubrovnik are sampling the cafes, seeing one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe and visiting museums.
