Dardenne brothers star in ThessalonikiTopics: Events, Things to do 
This year's Thessaloniki International Film Festival will be dedicated to the work of two brothers.Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne will be honoured at the competition by screenings of some of the two-time Palm d'Or winners' classics. Recent feature Lorna's Silence (2008) received an award for best screenplay at Cannes this year. Leading actress Albanian Arta Dobroshi will present the film at the Thessaloniki as one of the special guests. As well as the regular awards for best feature, director, screenplay, actor, actress and achievement, an award will go the jury's favourite. The jury is made up of one Greek and six foreigners from all around the world. The Film Festival attracts more than 400 entries each year, almost half of which will be screened this year between November 14th and 23rd, so book a cheap hotel in Thessaloniki early. Academy Award-winner Gustavo Santaolall, who has picked up honours for the Brokeback Mountain and Babel soundtracks, will attend this year . He will hold a workshop about writing music for film. Director Walter Salles will present his new film Linha de Passe at the festival, which he co-directed with Cannes best actress award winner Sandra Corveloni. Salles and Santaolalla collaborated in the Motorcycle Diaries four years ago. They will present Cafe de los Maestros, made in association with Latin American film producer Lita Stantic. |
