Come Dancing in London

Fans of The Kinks should make their way to the Theatre Royal Stratford East this autumn for a musical written by one of the band's biggest stars.

Ray Davies has penned over new 20 songs for the production, which is called Come Dancing after the group's hit single from 25 years ago.

The show will open on September 13th and will run for six weeks before a possible transfer from east London to the West End.

Promo material on the Theatre Royal's website hails the musical a "memorable night out" that promises to take audiences back "to a time when Saturday night dancing at the local palais was the magical, not-to-be-missed highlight of every young person's week".

It is set in the 1950s in and around local venue the Ilford Palais.

Ray Davies, who was born in London, was frontman for The Kinks for more than 30 years from their formation in 1963 to their split in the mid-1990s.
