Antique hunting in Rome

Posted on Tue. 01/04/2008 18:30. Categories: Italy | Activities

During the second half of May, Italy's capital hosts a fantastic antiques fair on the Via dei Coronari, offering collectors and bargain hunters alike the chance to explore what's on offer in Rome.

Shops and stalls stay open late into the evening for visitors and serious buyers to peruse the selection.

Those intending to buy will have to get involved in the traditional haggling occurring throughout the marketplace, adding to the bustling atmosphere - it may help to brush up on a few Italian words in order to charm the sellers. However, tourists should be wary of shopkeepers trying to sell souvenirs at inflated prices.

Coronari, the name of the street, means rosary sellers - this area was one known for selling the Christian beads for pilgrims visiting the city in days gone-by.

Beautiful buildings border the edges of the street, dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries.

The antiques fair is also here every weekend during October.
