Enjoy a huge helping of English heritage with a visit to one of the country's most famous stately homes - Chatsworth House.
The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire's Derbyshire estate is an impressive amalgamation of mansion, maze and magnificent gardens in extensive parklands beside the River Derwent.
The house itself dates back 450 years and contains one of Europe's finest private art collections including ancient Greek pieces as well works by modern British artists.
However, it is the gardens that provide the real highlight of a Chatsworth visit. One of the most popular features is the Cascade, which drops water 200 vertical feet in a fall of 24 steps, and the Emperor Fountain is also a striking feature.
Meanwhile kids will be kept entertained in the giant maze or investigating furry locals in the fun farmyard.
To enjoy a longer stay at Chatsworth, it is worth investigating the special events being held there this summer, ranging from sewing school to a three-day country fair.
