Our family of four (2 adults, 2 children ages 9 & 12) just returned from a lovely visit to Cappadocia. We stayed at Faruk Keles' Kismet Cave House Hotel. Faruk's hotel is barely a year old, and he has created a beautiful place. We stayed in the Lilac Suite, which has connecting rooms (one with a queen bed for us, one with twin beds for our children). The suite has a fireplace in one of the rooms, which we used the first night, as Cappadocia was still quite cool in March (in the low 40s F at night). The outdoor rooftop terrace has a nice, sunny view and is perfect for breakfast. We dined in town the first night, and on the second night enjoyed the option of a dinner cooked by Faruk's wife (including the best lentil soup I've every tasted!).
We hired Faruk as a guide on both days. He is a native of the area, and has lived and worked in the surrounding towns in addition to Goreme. Tour highlights: a 2-hour hike into the mountains to explore cave churches and wonder at the panoramic views; a visit to an underground city; a visit to an amazing Christian church/ mosque in the village of Cardak--built collaboratively 900 years ago. |
