The room itself was very comfortable but the en-suite bathroom was very disappointing ie. mould all over ceiling, broken bath grips and broken tiles with missing grout, not a very hygienic look.

Perfect location and very friendly staff.

VERY noisy location. Street outside had loud music playing until well past 2:00am. Very odd decor - huge room, but furniture didn't match. Plenty of room for two double beds, but instead there was a twin size bed and a double. Hotel looks like a hodgepodge of decoration and in various states of repair. This was obviously once a grand old lady of a hotel - it is a pity it cannot be brought back to its former glory. As it is, right now it is simply a shabby, mid-level hotel.

It was easy to find.

very good location, a starnning historical building but is not maintained properly

Location, building, food

Decoration is too cheap and dull for this sort of buildings, not enough attantion to the historical features of the building, lack of respect to the historical heritage, the hotel was obviously downgrated since it was built.

im sorry to report, but i have stayed in your hotel many times but was very disappointed with this stay......i rang room service twice requesting mayonnaise before having to go down to reception as i was told on both occassions the hotel didnt have any....which is hard to believe. my room was very cold during the night, resulting in me having to put my coat over my bedding in order to keep warm and although my alarm call thankfully was on time, there was absolutely no hot water and so i had to go to a very important interview unwashed......personnally,i was up at 6am and so dont see this as a peak time for showers.......i am very dissappointed in the service and the fact that when i spoke to the receptionist the next morning i was answered with..."oh,sorry". it has made me question staying in this hotel again which is dissappointing as it is so close to the train station ,but i am very bewildered after this partiular stay.

alarm call was on time

A down at heel Hotel - Reception Staff poorly trained and simple information hard to get. (e.g. handed a telephone directory to find own car hire! No hotel info. in bedroom either). 3 out of 4 lifts broken down(probably through overloading with beer barrels). No lights in bathroom and wash basin blocked Rm 374. Disappointing all round. (My family have used this hotel for 100 years - sadly it has seen better days.)

The convenience of being at Central Station.

Yes - untrained staff (some with difficulty understanding English). Poor Reception skills.

generaly the overall appearance of the hotel is careworn and run down. no food after 9 pm. Staff helpful on arrival.Room was ok but no shampoos or bath foam and only one hanger in wardrobe, though manager did sort this out and was helpful.Room was warm enough, but was cold throughout hotel.I do think the cost of b/b is high considering these observations

central situation

quirky lifts, cold throughout

I havw stayed here before and I really like this hotel. Sadly on this occassion there was no hot water and little time to try to find anywhere else. The hope that it would be fixed by the morning did not materialise, but they were trying their best. The breakfast service was not the usual standard and there seemed short staffing problems. I felt that a refund of some amount would have been appropriate.

Not much this time I'm afraid, though the location is excellent. I will come back again, as I've had good stays before.

Looking a bit tired and jaded. The floor levels are not obvious. Floor E where the restaurant is, is on the 1st or second floor. It isn't visible and I thought E was 5. A long walk. Should have known from before.

ON arrival at the hotel the front desk was not staffed and had to wait for service. The first room we had was like a barn, no heating in the bathroom and it was freezing, but as it was only for one night decided that it was too much hastle to change. We then discovered that the double bed was an absolute disgrace, saggy, very soft and ancient, the side panel at one side was broken. So not impressed. Later that evening just when we were sitting down to relax there suddenly was a racket, this was a disco or something else from outside. The receptionist was very helpful and was able to let us have another room on a higher floor. Why we could not have had this room in the first place I do not know as when we booked we had asked for a room on a high floor (3 or higher). This room was of a much better standard but could still do with a bit of work.

The location

As stated above the standard of the first room we were given was very poor and our request when booking for a room on a high floor was completely disregarded. All in all I doubt if we would stay in that particular hotel again.

i would ban the smoking rooms as the quality of the room we stayed in could have been better. I only opted for a smoking room by mistake as my partner wanted it but i feel there is no need for them now as the UK is smoke free inside. the smell of stale smoke was strong when first entering the room and I have stayed in smoking rooms before in other hotals and had never experianced this before. Apart from that the hotal was good, good service but i would say the breafast charge is high and moght be better to include a discount price upon booking to intice people to opt for breakfast.

quiet, good location

stale smoke smell and meal charges are high

The hotel lived up to my expectations. It's old, but has its charm.

Friendly staff. Internet connection. Good location. Spacious rooms.

The water was not fit for drinking. There is considerable noise from partying people late at night on weekends.
