This is a lovely location with lots of grounds to walk upon and much history to see, read about, and reflect upon. It was also extremely quiet, which we greatly appreciated. We enjoyed walking into the little village and we especially enjoyed meeting the artisan, Richard Leray at his Atelier Festina Lente and seeing his beautiful work.
Very quiet, with lovely grounds to walk around and the Abbaye was, of course, beautiful and historic. Nice that it was so close to "town" although the town was tiny! |

Room was a bit too small and the restaurant was far too expensive, so we did not eat there. |

I felt the hotel had "gone down" since my last visit several years ago. The rooms remain small and are very limited in their comfort, the main bar appeared to be unavailable throughout and I was surprised on arrival to be told we could not be accomodates for dinner after a long journey because there had been no indication when I booked that separate booking for dinner was required. One normally expects a hotl to be able to feed its guests. All in all, this was a disappointing experience compared with my previous visits about four or five years ago. The menu was over expensive and the hotel no longer good value for money.

We arrived after the stated arrival time but were disappointed that our room was not ready. We had travelled many miles on a motorcyle and were therefore unable to change from our travelling clothes to enable us to relax and have lunch. This Hotel had been recommended to us. The meal in the Restaurant was very good but we were disappointed with the lack of service ie having to ask three times for the Wine List and then the wine arriving after we had started our first course. The Restaurant was extremely busy with parties staying at the Hotel and there did not appear to be the staff to cope with this. We would think twice about staying again. We were not late for Breakfast the following day as we had to travel a lot of miles but when we arrived everything had virtually gone (due to the number of parties staying at the hotel) and there was no effort to replenish anything. Not good!

We have previously stayed at Hôtellerie Abbaye Royale De Fontevraud, and have thoroughly enjoyed each visit, especially the setting of the dining room! It's not often that you are able to enjoy excellent food and wine in a former cloister! The bedrooms are comfortable and furnished in keeping with the setting.
++ The opportunity to explore the remainder of this historical site and to marvel at the progress of the continuing renovations. |

-- The signs for new parking arrangements could be improved to indicate that cars can approach the hotel to deposit and pick up luggage. |

We have stayed at this hotel on several other occasions (and not just for one night)but this time we wanted a better room. Our room was basic but adequate and we were prepared to accept this as we knew that the food, from past visits, was excellent. What a disappointment. We were totally disregarded in the restaurant (except by one waiter) - we waited for over an hour before we our starter came then another 30 minutes before the empty plates were removed. We watched other diners come into the restaurant, be seated and served before were we. My husband complained to the hotel manager who treated him with arrogance stating that it was a new menu and they had another function in the hotel (not our problem I think). The menu prices were also were expensive - 39 Euros for two courses. It wasn't worth it. We didn't stay for breakfast and will not be returning. Personally, I have thought this hotel was a hidden gem and have always looked forward to staying there - not any more. We intend to write to the Hotel Company to air our grievances.
See review - I have recommended this hotel in the past. |

We have stayed at this hotel before this visit and had the impression that it is declining in terms of service and facilities. Our medium level quality room lacked in-room refreshment facilities, albeit the fridge contained 4 cold soft drinks, and room service has been cancelled. There was no mirror in the bedroom area (for hairdressing)or electrical points for a hairdryer near to the bathroom and no upholstered chairs to sit on in the bedroom despite the adequate space in which these could be placed. The impression was reinforced by the very worn carpet on the stairs.
The atmosphere and the quality of the food in the restaurant, both of which were the reasons for choising the hotel as the place to celewbrate my birthday. |

The lack of adequate furniture in the bedroom and a general lack of concentration on guests' personal needs when staying there. |
