Stayed at the George about 3 times, each time we were more and more disappointed, there seemed to be a shortage of staff, the lift was out of order for the duration of our stay, and we were on the 3rd floor, lucky we are young and reasonably fit. We couldn't get in for lunch as was fully booked, and there are no facilities for guests to have a quiet drink. Won't be staying there again.

A pleasant stay just before Christmass. Hotel was busy, bar was a little crowded but it was to be expected.
Nice room |

I did have a good experience. The George Hotel was perfect for our stay in Edinburgh. Good location, good comfort, good hotel.
I did like the location of the hotel. |

A very nice hotel centrally situated with good views over the city and the sea.
The large rooms, the efficient cleaning of the rooms, the good lunch |

The waiters in the front bar/restaurant was a bit too slow at times. |

Overall the hotel is situated in the heart of Edinburgh and very close to the Castle and the shopping district. The breakfast buffet is excellent and so is the rest of the Food and Beverage service team. The concierge is very friendly and supportive for families. However the hotel lacks some of the basics that a good hotel needs. The hotel provides no parking facilities, the check-in time is 3 PM while check-out is 12 noon. So you actually pay for less than a day, the front office staff are grumpy. The rooms had no refriegrators and no a/c control.

We stayed twice, once booked through our travel agent and once by internet. The internet rooms were larger and had beautiful views, on higher floors, no breakfast. The travel agent rooms were smaller with breakfast. We would definitely stay at this hotel if we ever return to Edinburgh

Fine hotel, room decore somewhat bland, nicely equiped bathroom, I appreciated energy saving efforts by inserting door key for lights on in room. It was very expensive, as was all of the UK due to poor exchange rate with the dollar
Free glass of champagne at bar, excellent location, helpful staff, room ready upon arrival |

No obvious way to control heat or cooling in rooms. Beds had duvets with sheet covers....way too hot for summer! No light blanket or extra sheet so had to remove duvet each night and just use cover. When we opened window the noise of trash trucks, traffic etc was incredibly loud waking us often at night. When we bought drinks at bar there were no crisps or nuts. One would have to buy expensive, large bar food order to have a little nibble. |
