Hotel Turismo São Lázaro

We found the entrance lobby and bar area cold and impersonal. The whole ambience of the hotel, including the restaurant, similar to a doctor's surgery, clinical and nobody speaking above a whisper. Indeed, soft piped music in the lobby and restuarant dining areas would have eased the silence and atmosphere. The food in the restaurant did not match the menu. Our particular meal was allegedly "loin of pork with chestnuts" but the chestnuts were hard, the pork undercooked, no way was it loin and the "sauce" was more reminiscent of a very thin watery-oily gravy. The breakfasts were good value but when we asked for the bacon to be cooked slightly more the waitress replied that she didn't do any cooking and there was no one else to cook it. The rooftop panoramic bar was closed, the panoramic viewing room was locked and the hotel was too far out of the town to walk. The bedrooms could have benefited by tea and coffe making facilities. No everybody wants to go down or have a jug of coffee delivered to the room, especially when the tea facilities are traditionally Portuguese with "warm" water rather than boiling water. On the television English Euro-news would have been preferable to CNN American News.

	If the views from the hotel had been better than a half finished construction site and unfinished roadways the views would have been quite spectacular. The bedrooms were spacious, the beds were comfortable and the shower hot and strong.

Nice hotel, breakfast could be a lot better. Wooden floor bedroom a bit strange.

We did expect some more from a 4 stars hotel, after a lot of other hotels in Portugal, wich were much cheaper and more friendlier. Piano bar and panorama bar (top floor) were closed. Some personel at reception were hardly able to speak english. The restaurant was very good and the personal in the restaurant were friendly. Maybe we did choose the wrong hotel, we used the hotel for a holiday trip and it might be a good hotel for business people
