Las Cancelas

Thank you for our recent stay with you. Staying within the walls of Avila was fantastic! Your hotel was lovely and well kept. One of the most important points about staying in Avila was that we were within the walls, to experience the ancient city to the fullest and your hotel gave us that opportunity at a great rate. Las Cancelas is in a great location for walking - not so much driving - but that adds to the experience of the ancient ways! The hotel was clean and quiet. The courtyard dining room is lovely. The old photos on the walls are a great idea.

	The hotel offers family rooms. We are a family of five and could all stay in one room, adding a cot. We also loved the fact that they kept some of the old beams, lintels and other constructions from the original building.
	It would have been nice if the room had one double bed... And perhaps a variety of pillows...

This hostal is absolutely charming and provides a genuinely authentic Spanish experience in accommodation. It is ideally located just inside the old city walls, and within easy walking distance of all the major sights of historic Avila. Our room/bed was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very kind and helpful -- but most spoke little or no English, so the ability to speak some Spanish is a real plus for the traveler. The hotel is very small but has it's own bar and restaurant that are very popular with the locals. The bar serves tapas any time. The restaurant serves a large variety of local Castillian specialties at a moderate price. BTW, bring your own wash cloth if you use one. Most hotels in Spain (and Europe in general) do not provide them.

	I especially liked the historical decor and intimate atmosphere of this hotel -- all at a very modest price. If I ever return to Avila, I will definitely stay here again.
