Dissappointing for the price.
The room was clearly a quart in a pint pot a former single en suit yes, a double no. I could not close the shower/toilet room door as the bed was in the way. There were no bath size towels, there was no beverage makings and the 15" TV was almost at ceiling height! The most frightening thing was the lack of secondary fire escape from a top floor attic room! |

Pleasant enough hotel however one of our rooms was on the small side, it looked like the room had been converted from an existing passageway. Nice views of the bay, the town however was a little sleepy with only on street and when the coachwes arrive for the D Day museum it gets extremely busy. Ideal for a stopover but not for a weeks holiday unless you are looking for something on the quieter side.
The hotel looks very imposing from the road and the food at Hotel Normandie was very good. |

The proprietor if that's the right term for it was very freindly and seemed eager to please. He understood enough english for us to do business. The location is about a mile from the beaches. I'd describe it as a scenic country location just at the edge of town. Very convenient to nearby d day beaches. It's an older building but very clean, plenty of hot water. He likes to start breakfast at 8 am but I negotiated a 7:30 start. I stayed at 6 different hotels and never saw what americans would consider a traditional breakfast. Their breakfast usually consists of a roll, croscent, jelly, butter, coffee oj and not much more. Some places have slices of ham and cereal but if you want a good breakfast, you better read the fine print before you book or plan on eating out. The Longues batteries are nearby. A must see for ww2 history buffs. I saw all 5 beaches and consider this the high lite of the trip. Bring an alarm clock. I didn't see 1 hotel that had an alarm clock and for wake up calls, they usually right down your request on a slip of paper which does not leave you with a good feeling if you want to get an early start. I've vacationed a lot in the caribbean and mexico, south america, etc. I always brought my cell phone. I could usually pick up a cell tower signal so my phone would be able to tell what time it was and use that as an alarm clock but in France, my phone could not connect, even in Paris. So, bring an alarm clock! Some advice for you ww2 buffs. I was not impressed with the peace museum in Caen. It consists mostly of pictures, some films, and not as many artifacts as you would think they would have. 75% of Caen was destroyed during the war so it doesn't really resemble what it looked like during the war. If your time is limited, spend it at the beaches and don't forget those batteries at Longues!
Freindly owner(?). Clean. Good location. |

Did not get my 7:30 wake up call. May have been a miscommunication due to language. |

Nice and cosy, well situated, too much draft in the room and very little space for clothes and suitcases, but ok.

We had a very nice time in Le Chanteclair. A perfect central place to visit all of the d-day beaches. The staff was very kind, breakfast very good en the rooms look well. You have to see it!!!

It was originally (1901) a family pension. It has still that character.Sometimes we had a "Fawlty Towers" feeling about it.It is ideal as a starting point for visiting places in Normandy. The room is not comfortable enough to stay in all day with bad weather.
The restaurant part (named on their website) had closed down. The staff was very helpful during our stay and though there was no bar either, getting drinks was no problem. |

After asking, we got a room that had sufficient space for our luggage (we stayed 8 nights). If not, we would have had to look elsewhere: the rooms at first proposed were good for staying 1 or 2 nights. The double bed was small and short for people with a length of 175 cm and larger, but a larger bed wouldn't fit in the room I think. |

We enjoyed staying at this quaint hotel. The rooms were charming, the staff was charming and the location great. Our only negative is the breakfast. All thought it was fresh and yummy...crossiants and coffee, it was rather pricey.
We thought the location was great. We really felt like we were experiencing the life style of the region. |

The only thing was the price of the breakfast. We thought for what you got for breakfast, crossiants and coffee, 10 euros was pretty pricey. |
