Area information :

Naxos is the biggest island of the Cyclades. It is 448 square kilometres and located in the middle of its island group.

If you want to experience the local tradition, you should try the tasteful delicacies. Marzipans and local sweets are made of a variety of fruits, while raki and citron are traditional beverages. Have lunch or dinner at one of the taverns, where you can enjoy the local food and the cheese of Naxos, "Graviera", which is a protected name due to its unique origin.

You can visit Portara, the main landmark of Naxos, which is a giant entrance and the only remnant of an ancient temple dedicated to Apollo found on the island of "Palatia".

You should also visit the Venetian Castle located in the centre of town. It remains intact from years of Venetian empire (1207 - 1564) and is an important part of Naxos’ history. There are more than 40 small villages on the island you can visit, each carrying its own history and traditions.
