Meath is known as the place where St Patrick is said to have preached to the people. There is a statue of him commemorating this occasion. Also on the Hill of Tara is a coffee shop and craft shop.
Meath is also known as the Heritage capital of Ireland due to the wealth of historic sites dotted through the county. The most famous of these is Newgrange: a collection of burial tombs predating the Pyramids and Stonehenge. They have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are over 5000 old.
Trim Castle is the best example of a Norman castle in Ireland and dates from the 12th century. Kells has some of the best examples of Celtic Crosses in Ireland and this year the new Battle of The Boyne Interpretive Centre was opened on the Oldbridge estate.
In the area you can enjoy horse racing, horse riding, fishing, golf, go-karting, paintballing and visiting the theatre or cinema.
