The 'S' categorisation (for 'Special') can be misleading, it is a rather regular
'3 star' hotel (or equivalent). Competitiely priced, it is a tourist hotel for
the independent leisure traveler on a budget. Positioned in the very heart of
the city, it is within steps from the biggest concentration of eating / drinking
outlets and night life hotspots (which can be a bit noisy for some rooms). Room
and bathroom equipment and condition is pretty spartan, more 2-star. My room was
a matchbox, with literally no room for my suitcase other than blocking the door;
the bathroom lacked some essentials and was last refurbished in the previous
century, but generally clean.

• Location: 10 meters from 3 nightclubs, 50 meters form shopping, 100 meters from a theatre and 2 cinemas, 100 restaurants within 200 meters radius. Taksim square (main transport hub, underground station and abundant taxis)is a minute walk from the hotel doorstep. 
• Wi-Fi in the rooms was not working (during my entire stay) and there was no technical support of any kind. I left 2 shirts for pressing, explicitly marking them 'Express' on the form AND warned Reception. My shirts were not back in the evening, I was forced to go out the next morning for an important meeting in a used shirt. In the process of (not)resolving this issue, I found staff incompetent and unfriendly.

Everything was perfect till I checked out and there were local phone charges
that I was told were free and ending up costing over 100 dollars for just a few
minutes. BEWARE. Also, they said at the hotel you will get your VAT tax back,
which of course adds up to alot, and that is not true, hotels are not covered to
get it back. The people at the hotel were wrong. Up till check out everything
was perfect though.
