Istiklal Caddesi is a long pedestrian shopping street which ends at this square, with a nostalgic tram connecting them. It ends near the Tünel (1875) which is the world's second-oldest subway line after London's Underground (1863).
Atatürk Kültür Merkezi (Atatürk Cultural Centre, 100 metres) - a multi-purpose cultural center and opera house, is also located on Taksim Square.
Bosphorus (600 metres) - the famous and attractive waters are a short ride away. The lively port of Kabatas is directly reachable via the funicular railway.
Sultanahmet (10 km) - the historic centre of Istanbul, including a number of key sites such as the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Hippodrome.

From Ataturk Airport (25 km):
- Take the Metro to its final stop, Aksaray.
- Take the tramway to its final stop, Kabataş.
- Take the funicular line to Taksim Square.
