Antiques and Asian food in one Madrid venue

Posted on Tue. 06/05/2008 18:30. Categories: Spain | Asian

Trendy, delicious and attractive, Asiana offers antiques by day and exquisite Asian food by night.

Concierge.com describes the glorious surroundings in this seemingly surreptitious building as evoking a "romantic urban netherworld"

This unique combination of uses of a building works very well - once the tables are set at night the stylish surroundings evoke Asian luxury amid soft candlelight, while many of the wares from the shop owned by the chef's mother remain in sight.

Jaime Renedo is the young, self-taught chef who breathes life into this popular eatery, producing a tasty, eclectic menu, combining Spanish produce and eastern flavours.

ViaMichelin gives examples of dishes including lobster with fresh pasta and bellota ham served as a Chinese soup and tuna belly as a sashimi wrapped in seaweed.

More top restaurants in the Spanish capital include Antojo, Casa Lucio and Hakkasan, another Asian eatery that produces a fusion of Japanese, Chinese and Peruvian flavours.

Indonesian cuisine in Amsterdam

Posted on Thu. 01/05/2008 18:30. Categories: Netherlands | Asian

Temo Doeloe in Amsterdam offers a fantastic selection of delectable Indonesian cuisine.

Hailing from Javav, Sumatra and Bali, dishes here include a host of favourites including a range or satays, beef in a coriander cream sauce and gado gado salad (vegetables in a peanut sauce).

Those with a palate less suited to very spicy food can opt for the more mild dishes available and the level of spiciness is signalled on the menu.

A word of warning from Concierge.com comes with the choosing of the terlaloe pedis, the spiciest plates, which heeds tasters to "hang on for the ride of your life".

And desserts also fail to disappoint, with options such as fried banana flambe and cinnamon Indonesian cake on offer.

The cosy venue is within easy reach of the Rembrandtplein.

Amsterdam is famous for its great selection of Indonesian restaurants and the Netherlands is credited with the invention of the Indonesian Rice Table, consisting of rice accompanied by a number of small side dishes.
