Paris is of course one of the worlds most beautiful and visited cities. The nice thing to know is that there are some new things to see. After an expansion project that took five years, the Beaux Arts-style Petit Palais is now open. This wonderful museum, which typically isn't very crowded, has a wide range of works including medieval panel paintings, Rembrandt's "Self-Portrait in Oriental Attire," Louis XV-era furniture, French Impressionism, the symbolist works of Odilon Redon and Art Nouveau ceramics. In addition, the Musée de l'Orangerie has been open since May 2006 and has some great Monet paintings. If you are looking for other impressionistic masters and paintings, you'll find them here as well, with Cézanne, Renoir, André Derain and others included.

Then there's also the new Musée du Quai Branly. Architecturally, its out there; a little on the wild side. Designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, this museum houses tribal masks, totemic carvings and other ethnographic works from Africa, Asia, the Americas and Oceania.
